This past Friday, Grade One had an action packed ‘Phonics Fun Day’. This Fun Day served as a reward for class filling up their marble jar, which gets marbles added every time they work really hard! It was an enjoyable and educational day specifically focusing on activities based around phonics (letter sounds). Every child had been given a phonic that they had learnt so far this year. They were each asked to bring to school a small snack and object beginning with that letter.
During the day children enjoyed activities such as the ‘Phonics run’ and ‘Phonics fun factory’.
The day served two purposes – to reward the children for good behaviour and also to secure the phonics (letter sounds) that they have learned up to this point through fun activities.
