How it all started
The concept of Logos School was formed when two friends, involved in youth camps in Cyprus decided to take a leap of faith and form a school. With a passion for education, committed Christian faith and a love for practical charity, Ian Ross and Levon Yergatian’s joint venture became a reality in 1973 when the Ministry of Education approved their plans to start an English speaking school.
Ian and Levon both made huge personal sacrifices to ensure that the school was not only established, but continued. They were joined by others, demonstrating practical Christian love for others such as Sam Chorbajian, Robert Love and Dr Michael Psiloini.
From humble origins in the port area at Zakaki with 13 students on roll, Logos school grew through the 80’s and relocated to the current site on Gialousas with 180 students. In the 90’s Logos became a recognised Centre for teaching and hosting exams for Cambridge Education, hosting O-levels, IGCSE’s, AS and A-Levels. Over the years many of our students have received ‘Outstanding Learner awards’ for gaining ‘Top in Cyprus’ in English, Sciences, Business, PE and ‘Top in the World’ for AS English – demonstrating the quality of education provided at Logos.
For many students, Logos was also home with boarding facilities at the Gialousas street site, as well as several other locations over the years. Boarding at Logos ran from the early 80’s through till summer 2009.
Today, many aspects of the school are still recognisable from those memories of days gone by. Several of our staff are graduates of Logos School, who have studied in Cyprus or internationally and returned to continue the mission. Many of our current students parents, studied at Logos. Whilst the curriculum, facilities, fixtures and fittings are constantly being updated – the heart of Logos remains the same.
